The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize yourselves with RED Hat as a Company, and the product and service offerings they provide. In addition, it also serves to give you familiarity with the various support mechanisms available through Red Hat. For this assignment, you will need to use the following URL’s: http://www.redhat.com and http://www.redhat.com/support.
1. Review the Red Hat Product Offerings for the latest version(s). Provide a brief description that highlights the key differences between these products. Don’t bother with all of the products. Focus on the Red Hat Linux product set (Advanced or Enterprise Server). Also provide a brief description of at least two other products from Red Hat that may be of importance to an enterprise. Please do not cut and paste their descriptions. Use your own words!
2. What is the Fedora Project? You can get this info from the Red Hat Web Site. Briefly define some of the characteristics, features, and benefits of this project.
3. Briefly describe the purpose of Red Hat Network. Select one (1) other of Red Hat’s Service offerings and provide a brief description. Also include a line or two as two where YOU think the value lies in these services.
4. What is Bugzilla?
5. What are Red Hat Errata?
6. What specific help and “HOWTOs” (from the site), do you think will be helpful for this class, and for Red Hat system administration in general? Looking at the syllabus, provide examples of two HOWTO’s that you may use.
7. Provide a comment or two on Red Hat as a company and web site as it pertains to being able to meet the needs of customers.
8. Look up one other “flavor” of Linux (Mandrake, Novell, Caldera). Provide a brief comment or two on that flavor of Linux and where it fits into the current marketplace. Are their product offerings similar to Red Hat?
