Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries
Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing
Policy for Champlain College Library
Effective July 1st 2009
To broaden the immediate availability of library resources, Champlain College has entered into a collaborative agreement with other academic institutions in Vermont to extend reciprocal borrowing privileges to full-time faculty. The Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) offers Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing for faculty at participating academic libraries throughout Vermont. For more information about VCAL and the reciprocal borrowing project, visit http://www.vermontlibraries.org/vcal/.
Who May Borrow:
Full-Time Faculty members from Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) member institutions are eligible to borrow books. (See http://www.vermontlibraries.org/vcal/vcal-circulation for a list of VCAL members.) All borrowers, and their home library, agree to observe the policies of the lending library.
VCAL Card:
Faculty reciprocal borrowers must present a valid VCAL card issued and authorized by their home institution as well as a valid photo ID.
Materials Covered & Loan Period:
VCAL borrowers may check out a maximum 5 books at any one time from Champlain's main circulating collection, Teaching and Learning Resources, and children's collection. The loan period is 28 days with one renewal permitted for an additional 28 days. This agreement excludes items outside the main circulating collection, Teaching and Learning Resources, and children's collection. Some examples of excluded items are New Books, reference materials, periodicals, A/V materials, and items on reserve.
Return Policy:
Books may be returned to the Champlain College Library or to the borrower's home institution library. Borrowers who return Champlain College's books to their home institution library should be sure to alert the library staff that the item(s) belongs to Champlain College.
Recall Policy:
All materials borrowed are subject to recall by the lending institution when requested by a member of that institution's community.
Overdue & Lost Item Policy:
For recalled or overdue materials, the lending library will send replacement fee notices directly to the borrower at a cost of $75 per item. A VCAL Borrower with overdue items and/or outstanding bills will lose borrowing privileges.
