Quantitative data can be further subdivided into continuous or discrete data.
Discrete data are most often represented by whole numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, ..., n) rather than fractions or decimals because discrete data has gaps between numbers. e.g. You can't have 1.7 favorite songs or 6.4 siblings.
Continuous data have no gaps between numbers. e.g. You can weigh 137.8 pounds. Your pen could be 13.5, 13.6 or 13.55 centimeters long.
