Using Percentages (I've changed the numbers slightly from the text book)

a. Convert the fraction 3/21 to an equivalent percentage.
3/21 = 3 ÷ 21 = 0.142857143 Most of the time, rounding off to the nearest 0.001 is sufficient. 0.143 = 14.3%
b. Convert 59.8% to an equivalent decimal.
59.8 ÷ 100 = 0.598 Some people find it easier to move the decimal point 2 places to the left. Be sure to drop the % symbol.
c. What is 39.3% of 460?
0.393 x 460 = 180.78
d. Convert 0.825 to an equivalent percentage.
0.825 x 100% = 82.5% Some people find it easier to move the decimal point 2 places to the right. Be sure to add the % symbol.

a. 58% of 1,020 people voted "yes". How many people voted "yes"?
0.580 x 1020 = 591.6 Since you cannot have a fraction of a person, round 591.6
592 people voted "yes"
a. 58 of 1,020 people said "I believe in ghosts". What percent (or proportion) of people said, "I believe in ghosts"?
58 ÷ 1020 = 0.056862745 Round the decimal to the nearest 0.001 to get 0.057
5.7% of the people said "I believe in ghosts"
